"Gerald doesn't just read history... he embodies it!
He laughs, he sobs, expressing every emotion"

The Morning Call

Gerald Dickens, actor, director and producer specialising in the works of Charles Dickens returns once more to the Great Green Barn for a one-man masterclass production of one of his great-great grandfather's greatest novels, which is also Gerald’s personal favourite... Great Expectations.

A fascination with the life and works of Charles Dickens led Gerald to write his first one-man show, a theatrical performance of A Christmas Carol inspired by Dickens’ own energetic readings of the 1860s.  Further shows followed including Mr Dickens is Coming!, Nicholas Nickleby and Great Expectations. Gerald has been invited to perform in major theatres, arts centres and stately homes throughout the world.

Great Expectations
Young orphan Pip lives on the lonely, cold coastal Kent marshes with his sharp sister and her kindly and good natured blacksmith husband, Joe Gargery... a chance meeting changes his life completely, eventually leading him to a home, job and life as part of the respectable society of London.  Though not all is plain sailing, and life lessons are learned from those he meets along the way... the reclusive jilted spinster Miss Havisham, aloof and testy Estella, loyal Herbert Pocket, blunt and wealthy lawyer Mr Jaggers, pragmatic yet caring Wemmick and his near-deaf father, the Aged P.

Whilst simply staged, Gerald's production of this classic is truly dramatic
