Foraging, the act of gathering wild food for free had been a part of human existence for millennia, though what is it all about?

As part of the Great Green Barn’s Head, Heart & Health learning, in the spring of 2026 Dave Brookhouse will be leading a beginner’s guide to foraging, covering plant identification, food uses, and lookalikes when out looking for wild foods.  During the session we will go for a short walk around the footprint of the Great Green Barn and For Earth’s Sake, talking about what we see, and sampling flavours of plants as we go.  We will then finish the walk with some foraged tasters.

Foraging had been a hobby of Dave’s for some 6 years; now he has made it part of his profession.  Dave has hosted many educational walks and talks on this gentle pastime.  In 2023, he became a foraging instructor with WildFoodUK and has since hosted public courses on plant / mushroom foraging all over the south of England.

 Price:
£40 per person.  One Under 12 free per paying adult/guardian

Information for participants:
We will meet at the Great Green Barn at 11am, and the session will run for approximately 3 hrs.

Weather appropriate clothing should be worn, including sturdy shoes, as the surface area will be uneven at points.

Please bring water to stay hydrated, although we won’t be walking far.
Water bottles can be filled at For Earth's Sake during the session.

A pad and pen would be beneficial if you wish to make your own notes.
